Getting to
Positano
When traveling to Positano, a bit of planning makes all the difference. Most visitors arrive by first traveling to Naples, either by flying directly into Naples International Airport or taking advantage of Italy’s extensive train network to reach the city from elsewhere in the country.
From Naples, we highly recommend booking a private car service directly to Positano. The winding coastal roads can be challenging, so having a professional driver ensures a smooth and comfortable journey.
- Train to Sorrento + Car
A more budget-friendly option, this involves taking the Circumvesuviana train from Naples to Sorrento (around 1 hour), followed by a 45-minute taxi or private transfer to Positano. While this route adds a few transfers, it’s efficient and a good option for daytime travelers looking to save a bit on transport.
- Private Car service
This is by far the most comfortable and reliable choice. A professional driver meets you at the Naples airport or train station and brings you directly to your hotel in Positano.
The drive takes about 90 minutes and offers stunning views along the coast. Most services range from €150–€230 depending on the vehicle.
- Rental car
Renting a car gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace, but it comes with caveats. The roads to Positano are narrow and winding, parking is limited, and traffic can be heavy in peak season. We only recommend this option for confident drivers who are comfortable with Italian coastal roads.
- Ferry
During the warmer months (typically April through October), ferries run between Naples, Sorrento, and Positano. It’s a beautiful way to arrive—approaching Positano from the sea is truly special. Keep in mind, however, that ferry schedules are weather-dependent and navigating luggage on docks and steep streets can be a challenge.
